Product Updates

Changelog

Follow along as we build XScapeKit. New features, improvements, and fixes - we're constantly evolving based on creator and player feedback.

New Feature
July 2026
  • New Buy XO page — pick a package and top up your balance in a couple of clicks
  • A Most Popular pick is highlighted to help you choose, with a bigger top-up option below
  • Checkout happens on a secure hosted payment page — your card details never touch XScapeKit
  • Clear confirmation banner when you return, and your balance updates automatically
  • Changed your mind at checkout? Cancel any time — you're never charged for a cancelled session
New Feature
July 2026
  • Mature-rated comics and stories now ask you to confirm you're of age before the content loads
  • Your confirmation is recorded against the exact notice you agreed to — and if we ever update it, you'll be asked to confirm the new version
  • Whether you're signed in or just visiting, mature content is handled the same way: creators' mature work stays gated until you've confirmed
  • Refreshed Privacy Policy and Terms explain, in plain language, the anonymous first-party visitor id we use, how your IP address is stored only as a one-way hash, and the record we keep of your consent choices
  • See exactly which hotspots your players will (and won't) see — right in the editor, no publish needed
  • Flip variables and reveal states on and off to preview every stage of a pixel-hunt or conditional-reveal scene
  • Hidden hotspots stay visible to you as dashed outlines, so you can keep editing while you preview
  • A live count shows how many hotspots are visible to players for the state you've set
  • If payouts are temporarily on hold — for example while a recent refund or payment dispute is being resolved — the Monetization page now says so up front, instead of only failing after you hit Request Payout
  • Requesting a payout now confirms success with a notification, and shows the real reason when a request can't go through (like your balance changing mid-request)
  • The “keep creating to reach the minimum” reminder now only appears when you're actually below the minimum payout
  • Screen readers now announce the fee-tier progress bar properly
  • Read counts now reflect readers who actually finish a strip, not just open it
  • Review badges now reflect whether you actually finished reading — no more misleading "Partial Progress" labels
  • Creators can write a custom sign-off that appears on each strip's end screen
  • Interest in locked strips is now captured for future creator analytics
New Feature
July 2026
  • Mark any hotspot region "Hidden until revealed" — optionally require players find an item or flip a variable first
  • New Reveal/Hide hotspot actions let you script visibility by name from any hook
  • A per-scene "Hidden (no outlines)" mode turns exploration into a true pixel-hunt
  • Build escape-room-style hub-and-spoke scenes: hide clues, gate them behind items or progress, and reveal them as players explore
  • Reveals persist in saves and automatically re-hide if the condition reverses
  • Full keyboard and screen-reader support for finding and interacting with hidden regions
  • Panel-by-panel view now renders every panel (fixed a blank-panel bug)
  • Uploaded panel art stays crisp — shown at its true size instead of stretched
  • New on-screen arrows to step forward and back through panels
  • Vertical-scroll mode is centered on screen too (was left-justified)
  • Switch light and dark mode right from the reader
  • Jump straight to the next strip from the end of one
  • Comic pages now say "Read now" and count "reads" instead of "plays"
  • A comic's cover art stands in when a thumbnail hasn't been set
  • Browse comics in Discover
  • Read strips panel-by-panel or as a vertical scroll
  • Comment and reply on strips
  • Like strips and comments
  • Get notified when creators you follow drop a new strip
  • Review comics you've read
New Feature
July 2026
  • Build explorable scenes: drop a Hotspot Scene node, pick a background, and draw clickable regions right on the image
  • Wire each region to any part of your story with the "Goes to" picker — no edge-dragging needed
  • Players click (or keyboard-navigate) regions inside the scene — no more faking exploration with text choice lists
  • The new Return node sends players back to the scene after a detour, so hub-and-spoke exploration just works
  • Choose per scene whether region outlines are always visible or revealed on hover — with full keyboard and screen-reader support
  • Your Get Started tutorial now includes Bits' Workshop, a hands-on hotspot scene to explore
  • When a card payment for an XO purchase is refunded, the matching XO now leaves your wallet automatically — partial refunds remove a proportional amount
  • If you'd already spent the refunded XO, your balance shows the difference as a negative amount; your next XO purchase settles it automatically
  • While your balance is negative, spending is paused with a clear explanation instead of a generic error
  • If a refund later fails on the card side, the XO is returned to your wallet on its own
  • Behind the scenes: lost payment disputes settle the same way, keeping every balance honest
New Feature
July 2026
  • Playing on XScapeKit and want to make your own stories? The “Become a Creator” button now opens a proper upgrade page instead of a dead end
  • Flip your account to creator (XPert) in a single click — you keep everything you already have, and you can still play
  • See what you’re signing up for first: a no-code visual editor, branching that changes the ending, publishing in a breath, your own creator profile, and play analytics
  • Land straight in the Studio when you’re done, with Bits & Chips ready to show you the ropes
  • Comment on a comic strip and reply to other readers — a threaded comment drawer slides up right inside the reader
  • Like comments, and report ones that break the rules
  • Mutual blocking: if you block another reader, neither of you sees the other's comments
  • Delete your own comments — a removed comment shows as “[deleted]” while its replies stay in the thread
  • Comics stays in early access behind a feature flag
  • A creator's public profile now shows each story's average star rating and review count right on its card — previously the rating was hidden there
  • Ratings now show reliably across every surface a story appears on, not just its main page
  • Set your comic series cover by choosing an image from your media library — the same picker your stories already use — instead of pasting in an image URL
  • Preview the chosen cover right on the series card, and clear it in one click
  • If a cover image is later deleted from your library, the series card flags it so you can pick a replacement
  • A creator's public story or comic page no longer errors out when that story has ratings — the page loads and the average rating displays correctly
  • Your comic series page now puts everything on one screen — edit the cover, title, and description right on the series card instead of digging into a settings pop-up
  • Switch between your strip board and the rest of your series settings with simple tabs
  • Start a new strip, publish your series, or jump to its public page straight from the series card
  • The comic editor canvas now sizes panels correctly at every shape — including square (1:1) panels that used to shrink to a sliver
  • Connections now behave predictably: dragging a new connection from a node that supports a single path moves the connection instead of silently adding a second one
  • Deleting a choice option now removes its connection with it
  • Publishing catches stories where a node or choice option points to multiple places at once — and clicking the warning jumps you straight to the node to fix it
  • Rename a strip, change its aspect ratio, and set its reading mode without leaving the strip editor — the old read-only info panel is now a full Strip Settings form
  • Choose who can read each strip — public, any subscriber, or a specific tier — right from the editor instead of only the bulk-schedule dialog
  • Schedule a strip's drop and offer early access to your subscribers while it's still a draft
  • Once a strip publishes, its scheduling and access settings lock automatically so readers never lose access they already had — you can still tighten visibility
  • Click the empty canvas or press Escape to jump straight back to Strip Settings after editing a panel
  • Image panels are here — upload finished artwork straight into a panel instead of composing it from characters and bubbles
  • Your panel art gets its own Comic Panel Art section in the Media Library, with folders, search, and safe replace/delete
  • Six comic lettering fonts for speech bubbles — from classic Bangers to handwritten Shadows Into Light — plus a plain option
  • Strips now show real thumbnails on your series board, generated automatically from the first panel
  • Uploads are optimized automatically (resized and converted to WebP) so readers get fast-loading pages
  • Cover images are no longer gated by a 1200×400 minimum — any image from your library can be set as a cover
  • This follows covers moving to your Images library: reuse any art you've already uploaded, at any size
  • We still recommend 1440×900 (16:10) for the crispest display on larger screens
  • Pick your xperience's cover and thumbnail straight from your image library — no more re-uploading the same art
  • Scene backgrounds, covers, and thumbnails now live together in one place: the renamed Images library, organized with folders
  • Upload a new image right from the cover/thumbnail picker without leaving the page
  • If an image you used was removed from your library, you'll see a clear warning with one click to choose a replacement
  • Existing covers and thumbnails keep working exactly as before
  • Drag your draft strips into the exact order you want them to publish — no more being stuck with the order you created them in
  • The strip board now groups your series by stage — Live, Scheduled, and Drafts — so it's clear at a glance what's out and what's still queued
  • Scheduling a batch now uses a searchable timezone picker that auto-detects yours, with the common ones pinned on top
  • Comics stays in early access behind a feature flag
  • Title-screen splash images now come straight from your background library — pick up to 3 without re-uploading the same art
  • Add a new image right from the splash picker without leaving the editor
  • If a splash background was removed from your library, you'll see a clear warning with one click to choose a replacement
  • Replacing a background keeps your splash screens in sync, alongside your scenes and cutscenes
  • Existing splash screens keep working exactly as before
  • Schedule a whole batch of strips to publish on a cadence — daily, weekly on the days you pick, or a custom interval — instead of posting one at a time
  • Give subscribers early access: paying tiers can read a new strip for a set number of days before it opens to everyone
  • Locked strips show readers a clear 'unlocks on {date}' card with a one-tap path to subscribe
  • Scheduled strips publish automatically in the background, right on time
  • Once a strip goes live its schedule locks, so readers never lose access they were already given
  • Comics stays in early access behind a feature flag
  • Cutscene scenes now pull their full-screen image straight from your background library — no more re-uploading the same art
  • Upload a new image right from the cutscene picker without leaving the editor
  • If a cutscene's image was removed from your library, you'll see a clear warning with one click to choose a replacement
  • Replacing a background now keeps your cutscenes in sync, not just your scenes
  • Read published comics in a new full-screen reader — go panel-by-panel, or switch to a continuous vertical scroll
  • Your reading-mode preference is remembered across comics and sessions
  • Like a strip and leave a rating when you reach the end, then jump straight to the next one
  • Creators can now publish a comic series and its individual strips from the studio
  • Shared comic links get rich social previews — title, cover image, and description
  • Comics stays in early access behind a feature flag while we build out the rest of the toolkit
  • Already have a visual novel published somewhere else? We can now import it for you and get it live on XScapeKit — playable, with built-in discovery
  • Your story comes across intact: scenes, choices, branching paths, characters, and variables
  • Images your story references are re-hosted into your media library automatically, so nothing breaks after the move
  • Imports arrive as a private draft you fully own — review, tweak, and publish on your terms
  • Want in? Reach out to request an import. Broader self-serve support for formats like Twine and Ren'Py is on the roadmap
New Feature
May 2026
  • Pick a background for any scene straight from your library — no more re-uploading the same image for every scene
  • Upload a new background directly from the scene picker without leaving the editor
  • Organize backgrounds into folders in your Media library, now reachable on phone and tablet too
  • A clear warning appears when a scene's background was removed from your library, with one click to choose a replacement
  • Browse and organize your scene backgrounds in a new Backgrounds section of your Media library
  • Group backgrounds into nested folders — by setting, mood, or story
  • Upload, rename, and move backgrounds without leaving the page
  • Deleting is safe: we show you where a background is used and, when it's locked by a published version, offer to swap it out of your drafts instead
  • Replace a background across all your drafts at once by uploading a new one
  • Create comic series and organize them into strips — perfect for episodic, serialized storytelling
  • Compose each strip in a new immersive panel editor: place characters, add speech bubbles, and set panel backgrounds
  • Drag to reorder panels, with your work saved automatically as you go
  • Set per-series details up front — genre, content rating, visibility, and a publishing cadence (daily, weekly, and more)
  • This is the first phase (creator authoring); reading and publishing tools arrive in upcoming releases, so Comics is rolling out gradually behind an early-access flag
  • New creators now receive a "Get Started" tutorial story automatically — no more blank studio
  • The tutorial is a real, editable story in your library you can remix or delete
  • When new xperience types launch, each will get its own tailored tutorial
Improvement
April 2026
  • New always-expanded node palette on the left with grouped categories and Shift+letter shortcuts for every node type (Shift+S for Start, Shift+D for Dialogue, Shift+C for Choice, and so on)
  • Click a node to select it; double-click or hit the floating Edit button to open its properties in a focused inspector — keeps the canvas free for moving and deleting without the panel in the way
  • Story settings (variables, hooks) now open in a focused modal with more room to work; the full theme editor remains on the XPerience detail page
  • Dark/light theme toggle added to the editor header so you can switch modes without leaving the editor
  • Empty canvas now shows a friendly start prompt instead of a blank grid
  • New stories now open with a guided tutorial — a tongue-in-cheek space-comedy walkthrough that demos every node type, variables, hooks, and conditional choices end-to-end
  • Moving nodes around no longer marks the story as needing a republish — only actual content changes do
Improvement
April 2026
  • Warm Sunset gradient (amber → coral → magenta) now powers the homepage hero and call-to-action — replacing the previous cool navy/cyan
  • New display typography pair: Geist for headings and Inter for body, with sharper, more intentional letterforms than the prior single-font setup
  • Subtly warmer page backgrounds: Paper cream in light mode and Midnight Plum in dark mode
  • New Wordmark logo pairing the brand mark with a Geist XScape/**Kit** lockup for navigation and footer use
  • Foundation laid for a broader brand refresh rolling out to marketing pages in upcoming releases
Improvement
April 2026
  • Re-slicing a sprite sheet now shows a confirmation modal explaining exactly what will change before overwriting your existing poses
  • When the frame count changes, you can choose to Replace (delete old poses and create new ones) or Keep both (preserve existing poses alongside the new ones)
  • The Replace option checks which poses are used in your xperiences and protects poses referenced in published versions from deletion
  • Enhanced confirmation dialogs across the Studio now support type-to-confirm safety gates and double-click confirmation for destructive actions
New Feature
April 2026
  • Drop screenshots and walkthrough images directly into your story description - great for tutorials, devlog entries, or showing off what's inside
  • Paste from clipboard works out of the box - snag a screenshot and paste right into the editor
  • Drag and drop image files onto the editor as an alternative to clicking the toolbar button
  • Resize any inserted image with corner handles - drag a corner to scale it down (or back up), aspect ratio locked so it always looks right
  • Supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, and animated GIF so you can include walkthroughs without jumping through video hoops
  • Images are automatically sized to fit the description column with rounded corners, so they look good on the landing page without any extra effort
  • Up to 5 images per description - enough for a full tutorial walkthrough without letting the page get out of hand
  • Accessibility / A11y updates throughout the story landing pages, story description data and landing pages.
  • Video support is planned but not yet supported in most areas.
